Italian football legend Fabio Cannavaro said during a meeting with football fans at Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Culture House that he wishes he could stay longer in Vietnam.
Sunday was the third and final day of his three-day visit to Ho Chi Minh City, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup champion answered different questions from fans in a friendly talk.
Cannavaro said, “I am surprised that the fans here like me so much. I wish I could stay here longer to get to know more about the country and people of Vietnam. I used to play football in Europe, but Vietnamese fans here like me."
Cannavaro, the captain of Italy at the 2006 World Cup, said the Italian players were not the strongest team, but they were the most difficult to defeat.
The greatest international veteran defender also came off the stage to give autographs to fans. A few fans failed to fight back the tears.
The Italian football veteran left Vietnam later on Sunday.
