The troubled prequel of the classic and epic ‘Lord of the Rings’ series is heating up. Stuff.co.nz says that the first casting call will launch this weekend. They are looking for young folks (16 years old) for ‘scale doubles’ (don’t know what that means)
This is a big step forward for this production that was halted and suffered development hell for some years (Peter Jackson legal dispute over royalties with Warner Bros, Guillermo del Toro leaving, MGM dispute over rights, etc.)
The Hobbit will be a 2 parts film directed by Peter Jackson (who I think had some experience before with this saga, but I’m not quite sure… :p)
It is planned to be filmed in native 3D and the estimated release date is still unknown. They are targeting for 2012, but we’ll see.
Stay tuned for more news regarding this, hopefully good news from now on…
