The Super Bowl is basically a holiday unto itself. As far as its level of importance, any dedicated, hardcore football fan will tell you it ranks right up there with Christmas and St. Patty’s Day. But if you’re like me (meaning you’re not a big sports enthusiast), you watch the Super Bowl not for the actual football game, but for the halftime show, which proves to always be a spectacular event…with the exception of the Black Eyed Peas' mediocre performance last year. This year, however, is sure to be nothing but phenomenal now that a certain Material Girl is running the show.
That’s right! We heard speculation and rumors about it in the past, but last night NBC and the NFL confirmed Madonna will definitely perform at the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show. Additionally, the singer’s site posted about the news and said the queen of pop is partnering with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, choreographer Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, “to create a signature performance for the Super Bowl’s Halftime Show, which will be broadcast worldwide.” If that alone isn’t enough incentive to get even the most anti-football fans to tune in and watch the show, then I don’t know what is.
The Super Bowl XLVI will air on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 6 p.m. on NBC.
